Operating SystemDefinition
An operating system is "software that communicates with hardware and allows other programs to run" (http://www.techterms.com/definition/operating_system) and includes system software which is the "fundamental files your computer needs to boot up and function" (http://www.techterms.com/definition/operating_system). Function An operating system has three main functions: 1. Manage computers resources 2. Establish a user interface 3. Execute and provide services for applications software Description and concrete example of how it affects the end user An operating system is needed to run programs. If you do not have an operating system you will not be able to run programs such as Microsoft Office and complete assignments. Recommendations I would recommend getting Microsoft Windows as an operating system for your computer. It is the most widely used, is user friendly, and has the largest library of programs and applications. |
